- Help Us!
The Program Center at Helping Hands Street Mission is a place for people to come and experience community, in a number of different ways, depending on the day of the week.
Currently, due to COVID restrictions, we have reduced open hours and minimal programs. On Wednesday and Friday afternoons the cafe opens up from 1-4pm as a place to drop in for a coffee and a cookie. Take it to go, or stay and enjoy connecting with community members, volunteers and staff or spend some quiet time resting or reading the paper. On Thursday evenings from 6-8pm, men meet together to ask hard questions and use the Bible to find answers.
We are eager to be open again more often to enjoy Cafe time of Mondays, as well as a Ladies’ Bible Study group and Men’s and Ladies’ social groups throughout the week. Often a group includes a meal as well as games or crafts. We also hope to open again in the future on Friday evenings for Barton Cafe and Saturdays for Cafe and Store open times.
On top of all these regular activities, there are normally other times of excitement throughout the month. RAW (Real Awesome Worship), is when our friends come in to learn about our faith, God’s love for them, and participate in a time of worship. There is also Barton Barber, which is when the space is converted into a fully functional hair salon! Our friends are treated to a full hair treatment: wash, cut, blow dry and style! There are lunch nooks, income tax preparation clinics, Community Health and Illness Prevention presentations, and so much more!
We invite you to come down for a coffee and experience for yourself what it is about this space that keeps our friends coming back! Rest assured, you will leave changed!
